*What Exactly is Application Testing?

Application testing, which is also commonly referred to as software testing in some instances, involves the operation of an application or a system under conditions that are controlled. This type of testing is carried out in order to evaluate the full results of the operation itself. In the process of this type of testing, the controlled conditions would typically include conditions that are both normal and abnormal in nature. While this type of testing is in progress, those who are doing the testing would typically intentionally try to make things go wrong in order to make a determination if the application works well and is free of any and all errors. Testing teams typically include testers, developers, and project managers, and at times, application testing will also include a portion of QA testing as well.

*What Exactly is a Test Plan?

Generally defined, a test plan is a type of document that features details regarding all of the objectives, scope, focus, and overall approach of an application testing project. These test plans are often created in order to enable those individuals outside of the group of application testers to better understand more about the project itself. Furthermore, the plan itself will commonly contain enough information in order to make it more useful; however, it generally won’t contain too much information in order to make things more difficult for those outside of the project to understand. Generally, test plans will include details about the overall target audience, testing objectives, product overviews, legal requirements, traceability requirements, testing priorities, database setup requirements, and project risk analysis.

*When Should Testing Typically Be Stopped?

Due to the fact that recent applications and the software involving them are becoming more complex, it can often be difficult to determine exactly when testing should be stopped. On the other hand, there are a few common factors that can help to decide when something like this should happen. For instance, whenever test cases are completed, budgets involving the tests have been depleted, the period of the alpha or bets have been terminated, bug rates have fallen, or deadlines have ended, this is an indication that the time has come for application testing to stop.

*What Exactly is a Test Case?

Generally defined, a test case is a type of document that features details regarding an action, as well as the expected response of that action, in order to officially verify whether or not a specific feature in an application is working correctly. Test cases are often developed early in the actual development cycle in order to allow application testers to locate problems in the design or the requirements of an application. Typically, test plans will contain details such as the name of the test case, the identifier of the test case, conditions, objectives, steps, input data requirements, and all desired results.
