Information Technology Consulting: The role of an IT consultant is one of an external analyst, whose role is to evaluate the IT systems of a company in order to help ensure that they are able to meet all of their objectives. Typically, a consultant’s primary duties include both analyzing and diagnosing the IT infrastructure of a company, as well as coming to a better understanding of all of the business needs of a client and both designing and implementing a technology solution.

Additionally, IT consultants commonly work with in-house technical teams in order to ensure consistency of use, as well as other similar duties. Furthermore, consultants will also communicate technical instructions in business terms that are understandable, as well as produce technical user manuals, which is something that generally requires both communicative and interpersonal ability.

Other common IT consultant requirements include the following:

There are also a specific set of requirements that an IT consultant must possess as well, which include the following:

*Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or another related field of study

*Possessing an MBA is advantageous; however, it is not a requirement in many cases

*Proficiency with database languages

*Excellent communication both verbally and written

*Good skills on an interpersonal level

*Creative in terms of problem-solving

*Possess an analytical mindset

*Good skills in terms of organization and time management
